The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 50,000 karbovantsiv banknote in 1994 as part of its efforts to address hyperinflation following the country's independence in 1991. This denomination was introduced to facilitate larger transactions amid rapidly increasing prices.
The obverse features the Saint Volodymyr Monument in Kyiv, with a trident shield to the left.
