About this banknote

The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 5000 karbovantsiv banknote in 1995 as part of its currency series during the early years of Ukraine's independence. This denomination was introduced to address the economic conditions of the time, including inflation and the need for higher-value currency notes.

The obverse of the banknote features the founding Viking brothers Kyi, Shchek, and Khoryv, along with their sister Lybid, depicted at the bow of a boat on the left side. The reverse showcases the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Kyiv at the left-center. This banknote, measuring 105 x 53 mm, was printed by Thomas De La Rue (TDLR) without an imprint and was demonetized on September 17, 1996.
