About this banknote

The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 3 karbovantsi banknote in 1991 as part of the country's first series of coupon-karbovantsi notes. This series was introduced to establish a national currency following Ukraine's declaration of independence from the Soviet Union on August 24, 1991.

The obverse of the banknote features an image of Lybid, the sister of Kyiv's legendary founders, within a decorative rosette on the left side.
