About this banknote

The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 100 karbovantsiv banknote in January 1992, following Ukraine's declaration of independence on August 24, 1991. This banknote was part of the first series of Ukrainian currency introduced to establish a national monetary system.

The obverse features the statue of Lybid, sister of Kyi, Schek, and Khoryv, the legendary founders of Kyiv, located in Navodnytsky Park. The reverse depicts the Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Printed by Imprimerie Spéciale de Banque (ISPB) in France, the note measures 105 x 53 mm and lacks serial numbers and signatures. It was withdrawn from circulation around 1996.
