About this banknote
The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 5-hryven banknote in 1992, with the series entering circulation on September 2, 1996. This release was part of Ukraine's introduction of its national currency following independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, a prominent 17th-century Ukrainian hetman. The reverse depicts the Illinska Church in Subotiv, constructed in 1653 as the Khmelnytskyi family burial vault. This specific note, cataloged as Pick 105a, bears the signature of Vadym Petrovych Hetman, who served as Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine in 1992.
