About this banknote
The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 1 hryvnia banknote in 1996, dated 1992, as part of the country's transition to its national currency following independence. This series was printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company in 1992 and stored until their release into circulation on September 2, 1996.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Volodymyr the Great, Grand Prince of Kyiv from 980 to 1015. The reverse depicts the ruins of Chersonesus, an ancient Greek colony in Crimea. The note measures 135 x 70 mm and includes the Tryzub (trident) watermark, Ukraine's national coat of arms. It was signed by Vadym Petrovych Hetman, Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine from March 24, 1992, to January 1993.
