About this banknote
The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 5-hryvnia banknote in 1994, with the series entering circulation on September 1, 1997. This release was part of Ukraine's efforts to establish a stable national currency following its independence in 1991.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky at the center right. The reverse side depicts the Illinska Church in Subotiv at the center. The note measures 133 x 66 mm and was printed by the British firm De La Rue without an imprint. It was withdrawn from circulation on June 14, 2004.
