About this banknote
The Central Bank of Ceylon issued the 2 Rupees banknote (Pick 72Aa) on August 27, 1974. This issuance followed Sri Lanka's transition to a republic in 1972, leading to the renaming of the issuing authority from "Central Bank of Ceylon" to "Central Bank of Sri Lanka" in subsequent series.
The obverse features a statue of King Parakramabahu I on the right side. The reverse depicts the Medirigiriya Vatadage, an ancient circular relic house in Polonnaruwa. The note measures 114 x 58 mm and was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company, United Kingdom.
