About this banknote

The Central Bank of Ceylon issued the 2 Rupees banknote on May 12, 1972. This release was part of a series introduced between 1969 and 1972, with the 1972 issue being the final one before the country's name changed from Ceylon to Sri Lanka.

The obverse features the statue of King Parakramabahu I on the right side, with the bank's name in Sinhala, Tamil, and English at the top. The reverse depicts the Medirigiriya Vatadage in Polonnaruwa. The note measures 113 x 57 mm and was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company in the United Kingdom.
