About this banknote
The Central Bank of Ceylon issued the 2 Rupees banknote (Pick 83a) on June 1, 1970. This series was introduced to update the national currency and featured designs reflecting Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage.
The obverse of the note displays a portrait of King Parakramabahu I, who reigned from 1153 to 1186 AD. The reverse features the Medirigiriya Vatadage, an ancient Buddhist monument located in Polonnaruwa. The note measures 113 x 57 mm and was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company, United Kingdom.
