About this banknote
The Central Bank of Ceylon issued the 2 Rupees banknote (Pick 72) on May 10, 1969. This series was part of the bank's ongoing efforts to provide updated currency during the late 1960s.
The obverse features a statue of King Parakramabahu I at the right. The reverse depicts the Medirigiriya Vatadage, an ancient circular relic house in Polonnaruwa. The banknote measures 113 x 57 mm and was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company in the United Kingdom. It was demonetized on August 27, 1974.
