About this banknote
The Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank) issued the 2-kroon banknote in 1992 as part of the reintroduction of the Estonian kroon currency on June 20, 1992, replacing the Soviet ruble at a rate of 1 kroon to 10 rubles. The banknote was printed by the United States Bank Note Company.
The obverse features a portrait of Karl Ernst von Baer, an Estonian Baltic German anthropologist, naturalist, and geographer. The reverse depicts the main building of the University of Tartu, founded in 1632. The banknote includes a watermark of the Tall Hermann Tower of Toompea Castle and a solid security thread with the inscription "EESTI PANK."
