About this banknote
The Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank) issued the 5-krooni banknote in 1991 as part of the reintroduction of the Estonian kroon following the country's regained independence. This series was introduced to establish a national currency after Estonia's separation from the Soviet Union.
The obverse of the banknote features a portrait of Paul Keres, a renowned Estonian chess grandmaster, with a chessboard in the background. The reverse depicts Hermann Castle and Ivangorod Fortress along the Narva River. The note includes a watermark of the three lions, divided into two parts on the edges of the note. The 5-krooni banknote was printed by De La Rue, a British security printing company.
