About this banknote

The Bank of Estonia (Eesti Pank) issued the 5-krooni banknote in 1992 as part of the reintroduction of the Estonian kroon following the country's regained independence. This series was introduced to establish a national currency after Estonia's separation from the Soviet Union.

The obverse features a portrait of Paul Keres, an esteemed Estonian chess grandmaster, accompanied by a chessboard motif. The reverse depicts the Narva River with Hermann Castle on the left and Ivangorod Fortress on the right. The banknote measures 140 x 70 mm and includes a watermark of the Estonian coat of arms, featuring three lions.
