The official currency of Ghana is the Ghanaian cedi, issued by the Bank of Ghana. Paper money was first introduced in Ghana in 1958 with the issuance of the Ghanaian pound. In 2007, the country underwent a major redenomination, replacing the old cedi at a rate of 10,000 to 1, effectively simplifying its currency.
Collectors of Ghanaian banknotes often focus on the diverse themes and vibrant colors present in the series. The 2016 polymer series is particularly noteworthy, featuring enhanced security features and designs that highlight prominent figures like Kwame Nkrumah, as well as symbols of national significance, such as the cocoa tree and the Black Star.
