About this banknote
The Bank of Ghana issued the 5 cedis banknote (Pick 11b) on January 8, 1969. This series was introduced following the 1967 demonetization of the first cedi, which featured President Kwame Nkrumah's portrait, after his removal from office in 1966.
The obverse of the note displays a wood carving of a bird on the right side. The reverse features carvings of a turtle and fish on the left, with a star at the center. The banknote measures 147 x 70 mm and was printed by De La Rue in London.
