About this banknote
The Republic of Estonia issued the 5000 Marka banknote in 1923 as part of its 1922–1923 series of treasury notes. This series was introduced to address the need for higher denomination currency during a period of economic adjustment following Estonia's declaration of independence in 1918.
The front of the banknote features the Estonian coat of arms at the center right, while the reverse depicts the Eesti Pank (Bank of Estonia) building at left center. The note measures 190 x 101 mm and has a watermark displaying "5000" and the letters "EV." It was printed by Elsner in Berlin, Germany, and bears the signatures of Eduard Aule, Johan Sihver, and Leo Sepp. The banknote was issued on April 15, 1924, and was demonetized on January 1, 1932.
