The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issued the 500 rupees banknote (Pick 119d) on November 19, 2005. This series features the signatures of Mahinda Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance, and Sunil Mendis, Governor of the Central Bank. The note was released on October 17, 2006, incorporating enhanced security features, including a red-to-green 3-mm StarChrome windowed security thread with butterflies and a Cornerstone watermark.
The obverse of the note displays a Kandy dancer at the left center and musicians at the right. The reverse features a stork-billed kingfisher above a temple and orchids in a vertical format.
