About this banknote

The Estonian Provisional Government issued the 50 Mark banknote in 1919 as part of its efforts to establish a national currency following Estonia's declaration of independence in 1918. This issuance aimed to replace the German ostmark and Russian ruble, which had previously circulated in the region.

The front of the note features intricate wave patterns, while the reverse displays a globe motif. Designed by E. Poland and printed by Tilgmann Lithography in Helsinki, Finland, the banknote measures 140 x 86 mm and was produced on paper from Tervakoski, Finland. A total of 1,300,000 notes were issued on December 31, 1919, and they were demonetized on March 1, 1924.
