About this banknote
The Bank of Estonia issued the 200 Mark banknote in 1919 as part of the 5% Short-Term Obligations series. This series was introduced to establish a national currency following Estonia's declaration of independence in 1918. The Estonian mark was officially adopted on November 30, 1918, replacing the German ostmark at par.
The front of the 200 Mark note features an orange design without a series designation, characteristic of the first issue in 1919. This banknote is cataloged as Pick number 23. Due to the economic conditions of the time, including high inflation, the Estonian mark was eventually replaced by the kroon in 1928 at a rate of 1 kroon = 100 marks.
