About this banknote
The National Bank of Ukraine issued the 2,000 karbovantsiv banknote in 1993 as part of its effort to establish a national currency following Ukraine's declaration of independence in 1991. This denomination was introduced on March 5, 1993, to address the economic challenges of the early post-Soviet period.
The obverse of the banknote features the Memorial in honor of the founding of Kyiv, depicting the legendary brothers Kyi, Shchek, and Khoryv with their sister Lybid in a boat. The reverse showcases the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Kyiv. The note measures 105 x 53 mm and was printed by Thomas De La Rue without an imprint.
