About this banknote

The Banco Central de Chile issued the 1000 pesos banknote in 1999 as part of a series that began in 1978. This series was introduced to replace the escudo with the peso, following the monetary reform established by Decree Law 1123 on August 4, 1975.

The front of the 1999 1000 pesos note features a portrait of Captain Ignacio José Carrera Pinto, a Chilean hero of the War of the Pacific, positioned to the right.
