About this banknote
The Banco Central de Chile issued the 1000 pesos banknote (Pick 116) between 1947 and 1959. This series was introduced during a period of economic adjustments, preceding the currency reform that replaced the peso with the escudo in 1960.
The obverse features a dark brown portrait of Manuel Blanco Encalada at the center. The reverse displays a depiction of the founding of Santiago. The banknote measures 145 x 70 mm and was printed by Talleres de Especies Valoradas in Santiago, Chile. It includes a watermark of Diego Portales. There are three signature varieties, with or without a security thread.
