About this banknote
The Republic of Estonia issued the 1000 Mark treasury note in 1919, during the early years of its independence. This uniface note was part of the 5% Short-Term Obligations series, introduced to address the immediate financial needs of the nascent state. The note was signed by K. Päts, J. Kukk, and A. Uibopuu, and designed by E. Poland.
The 1000 Mark note features an ornamental design at the center, surrounded by a border of stylized flowers and vines. Measuring 198 by 113 millimeters, it was printed on one side only. A proof of this banknote is held in the British Museum's collection.
