About this banknote
The Central Bank of Sri Lanka issued the 100 Rupees banknote (Pick 125a) on January 1, 2010. This series was introduced to commemorate the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant Project, which began construction in 2006 and was inaugurated in 2011.
The front of the note features the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant at the center, the Laxapana Waterfall above, an orange-billed babbler (Turdoides rufescens) to the right, and an autumn leaf butterfly (Doleschallia bisaltidae) to the left. The reverse depicts a Bharatanatyam dancer and a Mridangam drummer, along with a Naga guard stone and a stylized floral motif known as "Dvithva Liya Vela." The note measures 138 x 67 mm and was printed by De La Rue.
