The Central Bank of Ceylon issued the 10 rupees banknote on April 7, 1961. This note was part of a series introduced between 1956 and 1963, with the 1961 issue being the sixth in the sequence.
The banknote measures 145 x 79 mm and is printed on paper. It features a portrait of Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, who served from 1956 until his assassination in 1959. The note was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co Ltd, New Malden, Surrey, England.
