About this banknote
The Government of Ceylon issued the 10 Rupees banknote in 1937, during the reign of King George VI. This note was part of the "Elephant on Back" series, which was introduced between 1929 and 1939. The series was designed to standardize the currency and featured various denominations to facilitate trade and economic activities.
The obverse of the banknote displays green guilloches on a violet and yellow-green underprint, with inscriptions in Latin, Sinhala, and Tamil scripts. The reverse features a brown vignette depicting an elephant and palm trees at the center. The note measures 152 × 102 mm and was eventually demonetized, ceasing to be legal tender.
