About this banknote
The Central Bank of Ceylon issued a 10 rupee banknote dated January 20, 1951, featuring the portrait of King George VI. This issuance was part of the first series of banknotes released by the Central Bank after Sri Lanka's independence in 1948. The series was limited to 1 and 10 rupee denominations due to the king's death in February 1952, which halted the production of other planned denominations.
The front of the note displays the portrait of King George VI on the left side, with inscriptions in Sinhala, Tamil, and English. The note was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company, a British security printing firm.
