About this banknote
The 10 Lire banknote, designated as Pick number 5, was issued by the Consorzio Obbligatorio degli Istituti di Emissione under the Law of April 30, 1874. This consortium, comprising six major Italian banks, was established to advance funds to the state in exchange for the right to issue inconvertible legal tender notes. The printing was carried out by the Officina Carte Valori in Rome's San Teodoro district.
The obverse of the banknote features a large numeral "10" within a decorated circle on the left, with text in black at the center and legal text inside a decorated circle on the right. The reverse displays portraits of Italia Turrita encircled on both sides, connected by a decoration containing the repeated denomination "DIECI LIRE" and the number "10" in light blue. The note measures 98 × 54 mm and was demonetized on April 12, 1888.
