About this banknote
The Compulsory Consortium of Issuing Institutions (Consorzio Obbligatorio degli Istituti di Emissione) issued the 50 centesimi banknote in 1874, following the enactment of Law No. 1920 on April 30, 1874. This law established a consortium comprising Banca Nazionale nel Regno d'Italia, Banca Nazionale Toscana, Banca Toscana di Credito, Banca Romana, Banco di Sicilia, and Banco di Napoli, which advanced funds to the state in exchange for the right to issue these notes.
The front of the banknote features the denomination "50" prominently encircled on both the left and right sides, with intricate leaf and branch decorations in black and blue on a brown underprint. The back is blue, depicting Italia seated on the left. Printed by the Officina Carte Valori di Roma - San Teodoro, approximately 30,000,000 of these notes were produced. The banknote was demonetized on November 24, 1881.
