About this banknote
The Bulgarian National Bank issued the 5000 leva banknote in 1996. This note was part of the Third Lev series, which was in circulation from 1962 until its demonetization on December 31, 1999.
The obverse features a portrait of Zahari Stoyanov, a prominent Bulgarian revolutionary and writer, along with a hologram stripe bearing the initials 'БНБ'. The reverse depicts a fragment of the monument in Plovdiv dedicated to the union of Eastern Rumelia with Bulgaria. The banknote measures 161 x 80 mm and was printed by Giesecke & Devrient.
