About this banknote
The Bulgarian National Bank issued the 200 leva banknote in 1992 as part of the 1991-1994 series. This series was introduced to replace the previous banknotes and to accommodate the economic changes following the end of the socialist era in Bulgaria.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of the poet Ivan Vazov (1850-1921) on the left, with a depiction of his hometown, Sopot, in the background. The reverse side displays a lyre and a laurel wreath, symbolizing the literary prize awarded to Vazov in 1895. The banknote measures 137 x 68 mm and was printed by Wertpapierdruckerei in Leipzig, Germany. It was demonetized on December 31, 1999.
