About this banknote
The Bulgarian National Bank issued the 5000 leva banknote in 1942. This high-denomination note was introduced during the reign of Tsar Boris III, who ruled from 1918 until his death in 1943.
The obverse features a portrait of Tsar Boris III in military uniform on the left, with the state coat of arms centrally positioned. The reverse displays the National Assembly building in Sofia. The note measures 200 x 104 mm and was printed by Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig, Germany. A total of 800,000 pieces were produced.
