About this banknote
The Bank of Zambia issued the 5,000 kwacha banknote (Pick 45) in 2011 as part of the 2003–2012 series. This series, introduced in 2003, marked a departure from previous designs by featuring the African fish eagle on the obverse, replacing the portrait of President Kenneth Kaunda used until 1991.
The obverse of the 5,000 kwacha note displays an African fish eagle perched on a branch, accompanied by a mopane tree (Colophospermum mopane). The reverse features the head of an African lion, a cassava plant (Manihot esculenta), and the Freedom Statue, also known as the "Chainbreaker," located in Lusaka. The note measures 145 x 70 mm and was printed by Giesecke & Devrient.
