About this banknote

The Bank of Zambia issued the 50 kwacha banknote (Pick 37) in 2008 as part of a series that began in 1992. This series was introduced to replace earlier notes featuring President Kenneth Kaunda's portrait with designs highlighting national symbols, such as the African fish eagle.

The obverse of the 2008 50 kwacha note displays an African fish eagle perched on a branch, the Zambian coat of arms, and a sausage tree. The reverse features a zebra's head, copper refining at Nkana Mine, and the Freedom Statue in Lusaka. This note measures 140 x 70 mm and was printed by De La Rue.
