About this banknote
The Bank of Zambia issued the 50 kwacha banknote (Pick 37) in 2006 as part of a series that began in 1992 and continued until 2010. This series was introduced to replace earlier notes featuring President Kenneth Kaunda's portrait with designs highlighting Zambia's natural heritage and economic activities.
The obverse of the 50 kwacha note features an African fish eagle, the national bird of Zambia, perched on a branch, along with a sausage tree and feathers. The reverse depicts a zebra's head, copper refining at Nkana Mine, and the Freedom Statue, also known as the "Chainbreaker," in Lusaka. This note measures 140 x 70 mm and was printed by the South African Bank Note Company.
