About this banknote
The Bank of Zambia issued the 5,000 kwacha banknote in 2008 as part of its 2003–2012 series. This series, introduced in 2003, marked Zambia's transition to polymer banknotes, with the 500 and 1,000 kwacha denominations being the first to adopt this material.
The obverse of the 5,000 kwacha note features a fish eagle perched on a branch, along with the coat of arms, a dove, and a murera/acacia/mopani tree. The reverse displays a lion's head, a cassava plant with leaves, and the Freedom Statue in Lusaka. This note measures 145 x 70 mm and was printed by De La Rue. It was demonetized on July 1, 2013.
