About this banknote
The Bank of Spain issued the 500 pesetas banknote on July 15, 1907. This series was printed by Bradbury Wilkinson & Company, London, and featured the signatures of Governor José Sánchez-Guerra Martínez, Comptroller Emilio Rodero de la Calle, and Cashier Luis Clemente Fabiani.
The obverse displays a standing allegorical woman on the left, a helmeted head of the Goddess Athena at the upper right, and three winged cherubs reading, painting, and playing the lyre at the lower right. The reverse features a panoramic view of the Alcázar of Segovia within a central oval medallion. In 1931, during the Second Republic, the government revalidated these banknotes by adding a dry stamp in the upper right part of the obverse.
