About this banknote
The Treasury Notes of Estonia, issued by the "Eesti Vabariigi Kassatäht" (Republic of Estonia Treasury), were introduced between 1920 and 1921. This series was created to stabilize the economy of the newly independent Estonia following the end of World War I and its declaration of independence in 1918.
The 500 Mark note, Pick 49s, features the design elements typical of the series. The front side prominently displays the denomination "500" and bears the inscription "EESTI VABARIIK KASSATÄHT." The back side includes a large central motif of a stylized eagle. This banknote was part of the early efforts to establish a national currency post-independence.
