The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe issued the 500-dollar banknote (Pick 10) on August 31, 2001, as part of the 1994–2004 "Chiremba Rocks" series. This denomination was introduced in response to escalating inflation, which had reached 140.1% in 2002.

The obverse features the Chiremba Balancing Rocks in Epworth, accompanied by a bitter apple flower and two zebras. The reverse depicts the Hwange Thermal Power Station. Security elements include a solid security thread with demetalized "RBZ 500" and a watermark of the Zimbabwe Bird with an electrotype "500." The note measures 155 x 78 mm and was printed by Fidelity Printers.
