About this banknote
The State Commercial Bank of the Russian Empire issued the 50-ruble Depository Note in 1840 as part of a series introduced between 1839 and 1843. This series was initiated under the decree No. 13013 dated December 20, 1839, to replace depreciated assignations with new paper money fully backed by silver coinage.
The front of the note features a brown ornamental frame with circular patterns and decorative cartouches in the corners, displaying the year "1840" in the upper corners and the serial number in the lower ones. Centered at the top is the State Emblem of the Russian Empire from 1830, depicting a crowned double-headed eagle holding a scepter and orb. The note measures 112 x 150 mm and includes a watermark with the inscription "Депозитной билетъ" and "50 руб: 1840."
