About this banknote
The 50 Ostmarka banknote was issued by the Estonian Provisional Government on December 31, 1919, as part of the initial series of the Estonian mark currency. This currency was introduced to replace the German ostmark following Estonia's declaration of independence in 1918. The banknote features a greenish hue and measures approximately 140 x 86 mm. It was printed by Tilgmann in Helsinki, Finland, with a total production of 1,300,000 notes. The design, created by E. Poland, depicts waves on the front and a globe on the reverse. The signatures of E. Aule and J. Sihver appear on the note. Notably, the banknote became invalid on March 1, 1924.
