About this banknote
The Bank of Estonia issued the 50 Mark series in 1919 as part of the Treasury and Bank Notes of 1918–1923. This series was introduced during a time when Estonia sought to establish its own currency following the country's declaration of independence in 1918, replacing the Russian ruble in circulation.
The front side of the note displays elaborate ornamental patterns with the denomination "50" prominently featured. The text "EESTI PANGATÄHT" is inscribed, indicating the issuing body. The reverse side features the year "1919" centered at the bottom, with intricate designs surrounding the denomination. This specimen note includes a red "PROOV" overprint, distinguishing it for test purposes.
