About this banknote
The Italian Ministry of the Treasury issued the 50 Lire banknote on December 31, 1951, under the decree of the President of the Republic. This issuance aimed to replace earlier Bank of Italy notes with denominations of 50 and 100 Lire, aligning with the government's monetary policies of the time.
The obverse features the personification "Italia Elmata" (Italy with helmet) on the left, with the denomination and inscriptions in the center. The reverse displays the denomination within a decorative frame. The note measures 110 × 65 mm and was printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato in Rome. This series was demonetized in October 1957, following the introduction of 50 Lire coins in 1955.
