About this banknote
The Banca d'Italia issued the 50 Lire banknote (Pick 54) between October 11, 1933, and December 16, 1936, with signatures from Governor Vincenzo Azzolini and Cashier Giovanni Cima. This series was introduced to replace earlier issues and standardize the currency during that period.
The obverse features a wreath of fruits surrounding the watermark area, the bank's seal depicting the head of Italia in profile, colored Greek frets, stylized flowers, and geometric designs. The reverse displays the Capitoline she-wolf suckling Romulus and Remus, encircled by a circular chiaroscuro cornice with ovolos, and an outer cornice of a floral and fruit festoon bound by a ribbon. The watermark presents a profile of Julius Caesar. The banknote measures 137 x 77 mm and was printed by the Officina della Banca d'Italia in Rome.
