The Banca d'Italia issued the 500 lire banknote (Pick 51) between 1926 and 1942. This series, known as "Mietitrice" (Reaper), was first authorized by the decree of December 6, 1926, with subsequent issues on April 12, 1927, February 7, 1928, and June 21, 1928.
The front of the banknote features an allegorical figure representing Agriculture, depicted as a standing, bare-breasted woman holding a scythe and a sheaf of wheat. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle coat of arms of the House of Savoy and a statue from the Banca d'Italia headquarters in Rome, featuring three seated allegorical figures symbolizing Economics, Law, and Finance. This note was printed by the Officina della Banca d'Italia in Rome.
