About this banknote
The Bank of Zambia issued the 50 ngwee banknote in 1969 as part of its inaugural currency series following the introduction of the kwacha and ngwee in 1968. This series was printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co. Limited and featured the signature of Dr. Justin B. Zulu, the Bank of Zambia's second governor.
The obverse of the banknote displays a portrait of President Kenneth Kaunda in tribal attire on the right and the Coat of Arms of Zambia on the left. The reverse depicts two antelopes. The watermark features President Kaunda's image. This banknote was demonetized on July 1, 2013.
