About this banknote
The 5-krone banknote issued by Norges Bank in 1952 is part of Norway's post-World War II currency series. This series was introduced to replace the previous banknotes that had been invalidated on 9 September 1945. The 5-krone note was issued from 1955 to 1963 and ceased to be legal tender on 13 July 1999.
The obverse of the 5-krone note features a portrait of Fridtjof Nansen, a renowned Norwegian explorer and humanitarian. The reverse depicts a fishing station in Lofoten, based on a painting by Axel Revold. The note measures 125 x 70 mm and was printed by Norges Bank's Printing Works.
