About this banknote
Norges Bank issued the 5-kroner banknote (Pick 7c) between 1935 and 1944, featuring the signature of G. Meldahl Nielsen. This note was part of Norway's second banknote series, which commenced in 1901 and concluded in 1945. The series was designed by painter Oluf Wold-Torne and initially printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd. in London. From 1907, production shifted to Norway, utilizing paper from Alvøens Papirfabrikk near Bergen.
The obverse of the 5-kroner note displays a portrait of Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie, the first President of the Norwegian Parliament. The reverse features a central St. Olav's rose, a stylized Viking king on the left, and Norway's coat of arms surmounted by the royal crown on the right. This banknote measures 127 x 72 mm and was demonetized on 9 September 1945, when all Series II notes ceased to be legal tender.
