About this banknote
The Norges Bank issued the 5-kroner banknote in 1943 as part of its second series, which was in circulation from 1901 to 1945. This series was designed by Oluf Wold-Torne and initially printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co. Ltd. in London. From 1907, production shifted to Norway, utilizing paper from Alvøens Papirfabrikk Ltd near Bergen. The series was withdrawn and demonetized on 9 September 1945, following the end of World War II.
The obverse of the 5-kroner note features a portrait of Wilhelm Frimann Koren Christie, President of the Storting (Norwegian parliament), on the left side. The reverse displays the head of a Viking king, the Norwegian coat of arms, and a central geometric design known as the Rose of Olav. The note measures 127 x 72 mm and was printed in blue and cream colors.
